Baahubali 2 which took a big opening at the Chinese Boxoffice on Friday, has shown a jump in collections on Saturday although the growth was not at the expected level.
The movie had 46,000 shows on Saturday around 5,000 lesser than Friday. Baahubali 2 collected around $2.94M on Saturday showing a 25% growth from the previous day. The total 2-day gross is $5.37M(approx 35.9 gross).
The growth is a good sign, however, normally movies in China jump around 50% and the Indian movies in the past did show growth in the region of 80%. So, it seems the movie was front loaded on its opening day.
Sunday will be crucial now and it should possibly match the Saturday’s numbers to finish the weekend strongly. At the current pace, it seems the weekend will end around $8.5M.
The Rajamouli directorial is in the All-Time Top 5 for 1st weeks in China, as far as Indian movies are concerned. The movie is behind Secret Superstar($21M), Hindi Medium($20M) and Dangal($12M).
The movie is now heading for around $15-16M weekend, but the final number will now depend on how far Avengers Infinity War will impact the Rajamouli directorial. However, you never know it might break out Dangal which catapulted after it’s first week.
