Kaala has turned to be one of the biggest disasters for Rajinikanth in the Telugu states, collecting just over 7cr share in its full run.
There were huge expectations on the movie initially, as the satellite rights fetched a record-breaking price. However, the promotional content released by the makers didn’t generate the same impact as the actor-director duo’s previous outing ‘Kabali’.
It opened poorly at the Boxoffice and continued to slide, owing to a split WOM. The collections are nothing short of a shocker, considering that Kabali’s collected around 9cr Share on its first day in Telugu states which is more than Kaala’s closing collections.
The movie is valued at around 20cr and the Recovery of Investment is only 35%, meaning it will be a Double Disaster at the Boxoffice. This is the 3rd straight flop for Rajinikanth in the Telugu states.

Normally, Rajini movies carry a huge hype pre-release which tend to make his movies somewhat safe at least as far as opening is concerned. However, Kaala failed to generate that sort of initial mainly owing to the storytelling of the director which doesn’t exactly suit Rajini’s mass following.
The same was the case with Kabali, as the audience were expecting a hardcore commercial film and got a family-centric gangster drama. So, the expectations were strictly in check for this one, but even with those low expectations the movie failed to deliver.
Kaala is directed by Pa Ranjit. produced by Dhanush under his own banner Wunderbar Films. Nana Patekar, Samuthirakani, Huma Qureshi, Anjali Patil are playing key roles in this movie. Music scored by Santosh Narayanan.
