Rangasthalam has been creating a lot of buzz over the past weeks, as it was Sukumar’s first work with Ram Charan and to add to it, this was a village drama which is also a first for RCT. Amid all the hooplah, the film has finally hit the screens all over and let’s see whether it lives up to its expectations or not.
Here is the Rangasthalam Review:
Story:
The story is set in a village called Rangasthalam which has been under a single man’s rule for decades. Chitti Babu(Charan) is partially deaf who falls in love with Lakshmi(Samantha).
Chitti Babu’s elder brother Kumar(Aadi) who is the educated person in the village decides to go against the ruthless president(Jagapathi Babu) who creates problems for the villagers. Rest of the story is as to how Chitti Babu and Kumar Babu solves all the problems of the village.
Screenplay
Sukumar’s screenplay is very impressive right from the get-go, as the director utilises the initial 15 minutes to establish the characters. Each and every character is handled with a deft touch and adds to the narrative.
Kumar Babu coming back to the village from Dubai takes the lead in the film to build up the story. The film picks the pace with Chitti Babu’s arrest and unexpected Prakash Raj entry changes the total mood of the film leading to the interval with a good twist added to it.
Scenes like Mahesh explaining things to Charan every night and Anasuya revealing about the people who died after filing nominations previously show the director’s skills in handling minute details and still maintaining a gripping narrative. Screenplay creates excitement throughout the movie with an unexpected twist in the climax.
Director utilised the long runtime to link the characters and scenes perfectly at the end of the movie. It feels a little dragged at the end, but Sukumar manages to impress the audience with the final act.
Performance:
Charan as Chitti Babu is flawless. He carried the film on his shoulders with
his perfect mannerisms, emotions and action. This role redefines charan as a hero again after Magadheera.
This movie out right answers people who have been expressing doubts on charan’s acting skills. Samantha as Lakshmi is impressive. Key role in the movie belongs to Aadi as Kumar Babu and he came up with a brilliant performance and was well suited for the role of an elder brother.
Jabardast Mahesh and Anasuya performed well and they get enough screen space along with the lead actors. Jagapathi Babu gave another outstanding performance as a villain with very limited dialogs. Praksh Raj has very limited screen space but he was a game changer.
Technical Team:
Music by DSP is the biggest asset for the movie. His BGM elevates the actions to next level. All songs beautifully composed. DOP Rathavelu should be applauded for his top class camera work including rustic showcase to camera angles.
Artwork by Ramakrishna is topnotch. Editing should have been a bit crispier. Production values by Mythri movie makers were of very high standard and they didn’t compromise even a bit and this is clearly visible onscreen.
