Virupaksha, the latest film featuring Sai Dharam Tej, has set a new record for the highest opening gross for any of his films. Despite falling behind Winner in terms of share, the movie has managed to collect a whopping gross of 10 crores, along with a distributor share of 5.7 crores (excluding GST).
During the noon show, the film had an average occupancy rate, but positive word-of-mouth reviews have led to an increase in occupancy rates for subsequent shows. The night shows were particularly solid, indicating that the movie is poised to have a successful weekend.
Not only has Virupaksha performed well in the Telugu states, but it has also had a strong opening outside of India, with an estimated gross of $325k overseas. Overall, the movie has received positive reviews from both critics and audiences alike, and is poised to be a hit at the box office. The film will face tough competition from new releases next week.
Virupaksha features Samyuktha Menon as the female lead and the movie is directed by the debutant Karthik Dandu. “Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra” and “Sukumar Writings” have financed the film’s production, and it will be released in major Indian languages. The music of the movie is composed by Ajaneesh Loknath.
