The latest release of Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the star actress, titled Shaakuntalam and directed by Gunasekhar, is facing a tough time at the box office. The mythological movie, starring Dev Mohan, a Malayalam actor, in the lead role, has failed to captivate the audience.
After the first weekend, the movie managed to earn only $250K in the US box office, which is an unimpressive figure compared to the earnings of Samantha’s previous films. It remains to be seen how the movie will perform in the upcoming days.
Shaakuntalam features an array of well-known actors such as Mohan Babu, Sachin Khedekar, Jisshu Sengupta, Ananya Nagalla, Prakash Raj, Gautami and others, and was produced by Neelima Guna. The music for the movie was composed by Manisharma. Despite the impressive cast and crew, the initial reviews of the film have not been positive.
The special effects in the movie failed to impress the audience and made the reality scenes seem cartoonish, particularly the war sequences. The dramatic element of the film felt out of place and failed to connect emotionally with the audience. The poetic dialogues lacked impact and seemed uninteresting.
Samantha will next be seen in Kushi directed by Shiva Nirvana and the film has Vijay Devarakonda as the male lead.
