ABCD Movie Review: A Poorly Made Remake

ABCD

ABCD – American Born Confused Desi starring Allu Sirish is a remake of the super hit Malayalam film ABCD. This movie seems to be an entertaining comedy-drama and is being directed by Sanjiv Reddy. The movie has hit the theaters today and let’s see how ABCD is and if it finally gives Allu Sirish a much-needed success.

ABCD Movie Review

STORY: Avi (Allu Sirish) is an extremely rich youngster who lives in USA and spends money without a limit. His dad played by Nagababu doesn’t like how Avi is spending money and decides to send him India to learn the value of money. Avi is not able to adjust to India and tries different ways to make money and go back to USA. The rest of the story is how Avi struggles to live in India but eventually learns the value of money and also finds the love of his life.

PERFORMANCES: Allu Sirish has improved as an actor compared to his previous films. However, he still has a long way to go if he wants to make a lasting impact on the big screen. He should try to do roles that challenge him as an actor. Master Bharath gets a full-length friend role after a long time and has some good comedy scenes. Rushkar Dhillon is the heroine in the film and is apt for the role.

Naga babu performed well as the hero’s father. Sirivennela Raja played the villain in this movie and did a good job. However, the story could’ve used a more powerful villain. Vennela Kishore has a brief role but entertains.

TECHNICAL DEPARTMENTS: Sanjiv Reddy didn’t have to make any changes to the story as it is an exact copy of the Malayalam movie. However, is very ineffective in this version and doesn’t give us any good moments. Editing by Navin Nooli is okay.

Dialogues are good in a few comedy scenes but don’t leave a lasting impact anywhere else. Music and BGM by Judhah Sanhdy is apt for the movie. Production values by Madhura Sreedhar Reddy and Yash Rangineni are good throughout the film.

PLUS POINTS:

  • Few Comedy Scenes
  • Climax
  • Mella Mellaga Song

MINUS POINTS:

  • Boring Screenplay
  • Weak Dialogue Writing
  • Routine Scenes
  • No Emotional Connect

VERDICT: ABCD is a story that has the potential to be a hilarious movie and make us emotional at the same time. However, the director doesn’t do justice and the screenplay is not up to the mark. Throughout the film, we expect a lot of laugh out loud moments but end up disappointed. On the flip side, a few comedy scenes and the climax are good.

Allu Sirish has tried to come up with an entertaining film but fails in the process. The first and second half are equal in terms of content. This film is best saved for the small screen. With Maharshi still running well, ABCD will have a tough time at the box office. Allu Sirish’s quest for success continues!
