Karthi’s Kaithi had a technical brilliance and it has opened a franchise of its own. Now we have Donga, Produced by Viacom 18 Motion Pictures a thriller that is written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, let’s see what impact it left on the audience. Let’s go straight to Donga Movie Review:
Donga Movie Review
STORY: Karthi is an orphan and a burglar in Goa who is really smart at his work. On the other hand, Jyothika’s brother has been missing since her childhood and Vicky/Saravanan (Karthi) is brought to the home by her father as he thinks as Vicky is his lost son. The story is about the emotions between the family which unfold later in the second half.
PERFORMANCES: Jyothika’s character really had very little to play, her role looks like it’s an extended cameo and although we cannot complain, there was nothing in it for her.
We have seen Karthi in performances similar to this, nothing it was nothing new for him too. Satyaraj has the best role of them all and does justice with it. Sowcar Janaki is a pleasant surprise.
TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT: Rajashekar’s cinematography is probably the only highlight for the movie. Govind Vasanth’s music too didn’t have much of an impact. Dialogues are plain and editing by Vinayak could have been a lot better. Direction by Jeethu Joseph is a letdown.
PLUS POINTS:
- Cinematography
- Satyaraj character
MINUS POINTS:
- Weak plot
- Direction
- Jyothika was wasted
- Routine scenes
VERDICT: The plot promises you a ride and takes you nowhere. There are glimpses of entertainment throughout the movie, but it fails to capture the audience, partly because of the weak characters. Honestly, with such a star cast we expect a better film.
