Natural Star Nani’s sports drama directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri has hit the theaters and is doing well at the boxoffice. Let’s see if Jersey reached audience expectations.

Jersey Movie Review

STORY: Arjun, a star in first-class cricket, quits his career abruptly at the age of 26 for unknown reasons. Ten years later, turmoil in his financial status pushes him to reconsider his decision. In the backdrop of emotional bonding with his son, Arjun resumes pursuing his career at 36. Rest of the film is how he grows up in cricket. The ultimate sequence of the film reveals the crux.

PERFORMANCES: Nani is amazing in the role of a middle-aged cricketer. His performance has so much emotional depth and will make you cry and laugh. The hard work he has done to pull off a cricketer is seen in every frame. This is Nani’s best performance in his career.

Heroine Shraddha Srinadh was good in her role and made her presence felt. The kid Ronit who played the son of Nani(Arjun) deserves a special mention as he performed beautifully for a kid. Satyaraj played the role of a coach and his scenes with Nani came out well. Sampath is apt as another coach. Praveen was just okay.

TECHNICAL DEPARTMENTS: Gowtam Tinnanuri has come up with a story that seems pretty thin. However, the screenplay is what makes the difference and the climax takes it to another level. The writing style reminds of his previous work Malli Raava but is totally different. Editing was okay. Few scenes in 2nd half can be chopped off.

Dialogues are natural and hard-hitting. Music by Anirudh Ravichander was okay but his BGM deserves a special mention. Production values by Suresh Naga Vamsi were good and the cricket scenes came out well.

PLUS POINTS:

  • Screenplay
  • Nani’s Performance
  • Climax
  • BGM

MINUS POINTS:

  • Slow in some parts
  • Cricket Scenes can be trimmed
  • Doesn’t have Universal Appeal

VERDICT: Jersey is an emotional sports drama that has a regular story but a very emotional screenplay. We connect with Nani so well that we laugh and cry with him. The climax and railway scene will be remembered for a long time. On the flipside, the slow screenplay at parts and the excessive cricket scenes tamper the flow.

Nani has given his career-best performance. Jersey is a movie that will make us go through a variety of different emotions but finally will leave us with a smile on our face as we walk out of the theater. At the box-office, Jersey has a good chance to come out with profits in some areas but will have a limited run because of  Avengers and Maharshi. Go Watch It!
