Nara Rohit: An actor looking to regain his Midas Touch

Nara Rohit

Nara Rohit is known for choosing versatile scripts and has done it throughout his career. Whenever you hear his name, it’s his choice of scripts that attract your attention the most.

However, over the past few years, the actor has been struggling to keep up that consistency. Although the scripts he is choosing are still quite impressive, his choice of filmmakers is letting him down big time.

If you go through his slate from 2009-2015, you can see that Nara Rohit has delivered with almost all his movies. Solo and Prathinidhi were solid hits, while Baanam, Rowdy Fellow and Asura managed to impress the audience big time. Okkadine was the only disappointment although that too had a solid story but was lost in execution.

However, if you check his slate from 2016 you can see that the consistency has dropped drastically. He still had some solid movies like Jyo Achyutananda, Appatlo Okadundevadu and Samanthakamani, but the rest of the slate is a big let down.

Savitri, Kathalo Rajakumari, Balakrishnudu and Aatagallu were some of the mediocre scripts that the actor could have avoided. There are other movies like Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayalu and Raja Cheyyi Vesthe where the concept was top-notch but the execution was lackluster.

A better choice of filmmakers would have made, let’s say a movie like Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayalu into a cult classic but it ended up as a big failure. A mass movie like Balakrishnudu or a thriller like Aatagallu would have had a chance if they were handled by at least a semi-experienced director.

Nara Rohit’s decision of encouraging young talent should be appreciated but he should take proper care in judging their talents properly before signing the project. We accept the fact that it is easier said than done, but when an actor sets a standard for himself then it is their responsibility to keep up to that level.

Even on the personal front, the actor should take proper care of his physique. He decided to go slim for a mediocre movie like Balakrishnudu, but couldn’t continue the same for the following movies where his look could have been an added advantage.

Nara Rohit still has that Midas Touch of selecting versatile scripts and all he needs to do is select the right filmmaker for the right subject. He has been on a break for a while now and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, because when things aren’t going your way then it’s best to pause and reassess what’s going wrong.

Sree Vishnu has recently confirmed that Nara Rohit will come back with a big project which will see both the actors re-unite, while also revealing that the Rowdy Fellow actor has a good line-up of films coming up.

This is not a criticism of the actor but as a movie lover, it is disheartening to see an actor with such high potential go wayward with his choices. We are hoping that Nara Rohit gets back his Midas Touch and gives many more versatile movies.
