Republic Movie Review

STORY:

Abhiram(Sai Dharam Tej) is a person who lives independently and always questions the wrongdoings around him in the system including his father (Jagapathi Babu) who is a government employee and corrupt. With his hard work, he gets a seat in MIT but leaves his dreams to counterattack the system and joins IAS.

He then becomes a collector of his own district and takes on the issues related to Telleru lake and fake encounters. He eventually deals with a local politician who is CM’s mother Vishaka Vani(Ramya Krishna). How Abhiram brought justice to the people who are dependent on Telleru lake forms the rest of the story.

PERFORMANCES:

Sai Tej has done an excellent job in his role. He is impressive as a collector and performed well in the confrontation scenes with Ramya Krishna. Aishwarya Rajesh looks decent but has less screen time. Ramya Krishna puts in another great performance as a politician. Though her scenes come in the second half, she creates a great impact on the audience.

Jagapathi Babu delivered a decent performance as a corrupt government employee and an emotional father. Srikanth Iyer has showcased his skills well as a corrupt cop. Rahul Ramakrishna did a good job in his short role.

TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT:

Director Deva Katta has done an okay job with the film as a whole. He impresses with gripping scenes and proceedings in the first half and keeps high expectations on the second half. However, he failed to present the second half in a gripping manner with a lagging screenplay. The slow narration fails to grab the audience’s attention and some logics go for a toss. However, a few scenes are quite engaging in the second half too.

The confrontation scenes between Sai Tej and Ramya Krishna came out quite well. Dialogues in the film need special appreciation as they create solid impact on the audience. Music and BGM are decent. Production values are good. The cinematography is decent.

PLUS POINTS:

  • Realistic Climax
  • Story
  • Acting

MINUS POINTS:

  • Slow Narration
  • Few over the top scenes

VERDICT:

Republic is a political thriller that has some good scenes questioning the reality of the system. The story has an interesting premise but falls flat with it’s execution. The climax of the film has mixed responses but it is actually the reality in current society. If you ignore the slow narration and are really interested in political stories then this film is a good watch for this weekend.
