Theaters Bandh from 2nd March in South India

As we know discussions between digital service providers and Producers JAC regarding the higher service charges by Digital service providers like Qube etc has been going on for a while now.

Producer’s council have been asking to cut down the rates to exhibit their movies in theaters. A meeting was held today to find an amicable solution, but it ended in a stalemate.

After the crucial meeting, producer’s JAC announced that theaters will observe bandh from March 2nd throughout South India till the digital service providers cut their prices.

Let us go back to the actual issue. Until a few years back, theatrical prints were used to exhibit movies, but now theaters have upgraded and are now using digital services to exhibit the movies in theaters.

For this purpose, producers have to pay service charges to the digital service providers to use their service. However, over the past one-year service providers have hiked the prices in a big way which has become a burden to producers especially to the smaller ones.

Producers JAC and Digital service providers officials have conducted quite a few meetings regarding the issue but no understanding has been reached yet.

The Bandh may have a huge impact on few medium budget releases like Nitin’s Chal Mohana Ranga, Naga Shourya’s Kanam and even a big film like Ram charan’s Rangasthalam. Let’s see what happens but hopefully, both parties can resolve the issue before March.
