RED Movie Review: An Okay Suspense thriller

Red Movie Review

RED which stars Ram Pothineni in the lead role is a remake of Tamil superhit film Thadam. The film was supposed to hit the screens at the start of last year but got postponed due to lockdown. However, the movie is finally here and the trailer has promised a gripping thriller. Let’s see whether the film lives up to the expectations. Here is RED Movie Review:

RED Movie Review

STORY:

Ram plays a dual role in the film namely Siddharth and Aditya. Siddharth is a well-settled Civil Engineer while Aditya is a Racketeer. The story takes a turn when a guy named Akash gets killed near his beach house and the police arrest Siddharth as the prime suspect. Eventually, Aditya also gets involved in the same case. Finding out who is the killer and what was the crime motive forms the rest of the story.

PERFORMANCES:

Ram has done an excellent job in both his roles. He managed to showcase the variations quite well. Malvika Sharma looks good but has very less screen time. Amritha Aiyer is okay while Sampath puts in a good performance as a cop.

Vennela Kishore’s comedy generates few laughs while Satya’s comic timing is also apt. Nivetha Pethuraj doesn’t create much of an impact even though the scope was good. Posani did well in his short role.

TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT:

Director Kishore Tirumala has done an okay job. He failed to present a good story(gives vibes of korean series “I hear your voice”) in a gripping manner with a weak screenplay. However, few scenes are quite engaging.

The proceedings in the first half should have been quicker. The slow narration fails to grab audience’s attention and few logics go for a toss in the film. Mani Sharma impresses with his songs and BGM. Production values are good. Cinematography is decent and dialogues were good.

PLUS POINTS:

  • Ram
  • Story
  • Songs and BGM

MINUS POINTS:

  • Slow narration
  • Investigation scenes

VERDICT:

RED is a suspense thriller that has some good moments. The story has an interesting premise but falls flat with it’s execution. However, it is packed with some decent performances and a solid story. It turns out to be a passable watch for this weekend.
